How To Honor MLK On This Day Of Service

The New Year often brings feelings of positive improvement and change – a time to focus on living a better life and providing support for those around us. As we make our way through the month of January, it’s important to remember Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., a pioneer in the world of positive improvement and change, with the celebration of the MLK Day of Service on Monday, January 17.

Dr. King once said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others,’” and for nearly 30 years the MLK Day of Service has encouraged individuals to volunteer their time in service to their communities. Here at the Keene Family YMCA we’re encouraging everyone to use this day as a call to action to get involved to better our community in 2022.

Volunteering, regardless of whether the opportunity is big or small, can make a major impact on those around you and helps keep our communities and personal relationships strong. With our community still recovering following the effects of COVID-19, volunteer work is needed now, more than ever.

The Y is currently seeking volunteers to assist with their upcoming vaccine clinic, taking place at the Keene Family YMCA on Monday, January 21st from 10am-2pm.  If you’re able to help, please send us an email. We’ll respond ASAP to provide more details about available assignments.

In 2021, more than 520 volunteers contributed more than 3271 hours of service at the Keene Family YMCA. These volunteers helped us run programs and provide critical services to our community and assisted with a wide range of family-friendly events that the Y presented last year.

Volunteerism is at the very heart of the YMCA movement. Without our volunteers, the Y would not be nearly as effective at supporting and strengthening communities and providing much-needed services to those in need. Volunteers truly are heroes!

If you would like to get involved, click here. There are many volunteer opportunities available year-round at the Keene Family YMCA. We’d love to hear from you!
