About the Keene Family YMCA

The Keene Family YMCA is a leading nonprofit dedicated to strengthening community through programs and services that build spirit, mind and body. Every day we work side by side with diverse leaders and organizations throughout the region to ensure that everyone – regardless of age, ethnicity, income or background – has the opportunity to experience the joy of better health.

We have three primary areas of impact:

Healthy Living

Through a wide range of programs, classes, and workshops, we provide the guidance and resources you need to live your best life.

With a focus on education, connection, physical health and emotional well-being, we’ll help you build healthy habits, reduce the risk of disease, and improve your health inside and out.

Youth Development

At the Y, we believe that every child, youth and teen deserves the opportunity to realize their full potential. That’s why we put so much time into developing youth-centered programs of all shapes and sizes. So every youth we serve can find and explore their passions, while building friendships and connections that will support them throughout their lives.

Social Responsibilty

The Y has been listening and responding to our community’s most critical social needs since 1885. Through the Y, volunteers, donors, leaders, and partners across the Monadnock Region are empowering the community to be inclusive, confident, connected and secure.

Our Mission

We serve all people through programs and services that build spirit, mind and body with a focus on Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility.

Our Cause

Strengthening the Foundation of our Community.

Our Vision

A community where everyone is welcome and thriving.

Our Values

We live by our four core values: Respect, Responsibility, Honesty, and Caring. These values are infused into everything we do, and they guide us through every interaction we have without our facility and throughout the community.

Our Impact

Our Y serves thousands of individuals and families each year with core programs like affordable childcare and afterschool care, swimming lessons, chronic disease prevention, adult and youth sports, healthy living and mental health support. Through our Membership for All program, we provide financial assistance to those who need it, helping to ensure that everyone who wishes to become a member or participate in any of our programs has the opportunity to do so.

At the Y, we connect people to a greater sense of purpose – and to each other – to make our community stronger by nurturing the potential of all. Our impact is far-reaching, and close to home. And it’s largely driven by our dedicated team of staff and volunteers. Our members say it best…

Mission Moments

a new understanding of who I was. The Y gave me that

“The Y takes you beyond who you think you are… one day I was asked to join a basketball game. I knew I didn’t have the stamina to play full-court basketball. I tried to beg off, but the staff member didn’t let go so I agreed. I played for 45 minutes and was elated when I finished. I was a boy again – all my old man expectations shattered. I had a new understanding of who I was. The Y gave me that.”

The Keene Family YMCA has been an integral part of my daughter’s life

“The Keene Family YMCA has been an integral part of my daughter’s life. Swimming, gymnastics, the all-blessed snow day mini-camps. Nothing, however, tops Camp Wakonda. She starts to get the excited wiggles a week or so before it begins and spends most of the camp feeling her way through the process of building interpersonal relationships that are so vital to development. On the last day this year, she cried because it was over, a strange signal of victory for a parent.”

a chance to shine in ways where they don’t normally

“Miriam is NOT a traditional athlete in a team/ball sport sense. To see her be able to enjoy and do well at something like this is absolutely incredible. So you are giving kids like her a chance to shine in ways where they don’t normally and also teaching them to have a love of the outdoors and what their bodies can do.”
