The Otter Romp Youth Triathlon

A collaboration between the Keene Family YMCA and Sonic Endurance, the Otter Romp is the only youth triathlon in the Monadnock Region, offering kids ages 5-12 a safe and positive introduction to the sport.

About the Otter Romp

In 2022 the Keene Family YMCA partnered with Sonic Endurance to bring the first youth triathlon to the Y. The event now happens annually in June, with a 6-8 week training program leading up to the event for first-timers or those who could benefit from some structured training. The swim segment takes place in the Keene Family YMCA pool, the bike segment is held on a completely closed course on Summit Road, and the run segment takes place on the YMCA grounds.

There are four age groups: 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, and 11-12, each with age-appropriate distances and lots of support. All participants must be able to swim a minimum of 25 yards without a floatation device and are required to bring their own equipment.

"We had so much fun!"

“We had so much fun and everyone was so nice! This was a first for my kids—they were nervous. You made it such a positive experience. Thank you so much for putting together such a fun and safe race!”

–Sharon Peterson

"Absolutely Incredible!"

“Miriam is not a traditional athlete in a team/ball sports sense. To see her be able to enjoy and do well at something like this is absolutely incredible. So you are giving kids like her a chance to shine in ways where they didn’t normally and also teaching them to have a love of the outdoors and what their bodies can do.”
