Youth Swim Team

The Keene Family YMCA Dolphins Swim Team trains athletes between the ages of 6 and 18 to become competitive swimmers.

We believe that competitive swimming nurtures healthy development and encourages dedication to sportsmanship, academics, community involvement, and life-long fitness. Our coaches will work with your child to set goals and commit to achieving them as a responsible member of the team.

About the Team

Dolphins Swim Teammate swimming in a competition

The Keene Family YMCA Dolphins Swim Team (KYD) is one of the oldest swim teams in New Hampshire. The team participates in several meets throughout the season, as well as in league and regional championships. KYD is a member of the Western Massachusetts YMCA District Swim League.

Our season typically runs from September-March. It is a commitment of time, energy and effort. The team counts on the commitment of every swimmer and their family to ensure things run smoothly. Practice takes place 2-4 times each week, and will include work both in and out of the pool.

Joining the Team

The Keene Family YMCA Dolphins Swim Team is composed of children ages 6-18. All team members must also be a member of the Keene Family YMCA.

To join the team, swimmers must complete the registration packet for the current season. The packet includes health forms, proof of active membership, a copy of birth certificate, and acknowledgment of the swimmer and parent codes of conduct. KYD is a dual-affiliated YMCA/USA Swim Team and thus requires all team members be registered members of USA Swimming.

Swimmers new to the team will need to schedule an evaluation to ensure they possess the necessary skills and to ensure proper training group placement. If a swimmer has not yet developed the skills needed, options will be suggested to prepare them to be a member of the team.

If you’re interested in joining the Keene Family YMCA Dolphins Swim Team, please inquire with Aquatics Director, Morgan Allard, or the team’s Head Coach, Pedr Seymour.

Meet Our Coaches

Pedr Seymour from the keene ymca

Pedr Seymour

Head Coach

Pedr swam in high school and Division 3 in college. He started as an assistant coach for the Brattleboro Swim Team in 1984. In 1993 he started The Edge Swim Team in Essex, Vermont where he coached for three years. In 2012 he joined the Connecticut River Valley Stingrays and became their head coach in 2013. He left the Stingrays and joined KYD in 2016. Pedr believes in a holistic coaching philosophy based on developing the whole person. Swimming is an unusual sport with little hard science to support the refinement of stroke and waterborne physiological conditioning. Staying current with the latest research on training principles and technique figures strongly in his coaching endeavors. Pedr is also a video editor and lives in Brattleboro with his wife and two daughters.
