Teen Programs

Whether it’s participating in a structured program, playing basketball, or just hanging out with friends, the Y is a safe space for teens to be and belong. At the Y you’ll find lots of opportunities for your teen to connect with others and explore new interests while developing leadership skills that will serve them throughout their lives.

The Keene Family YMCA teen programs provide opportunities for teens to explore new interests, make new friends, and engage in healthy activities.

Program Information

Teen Night Out

Open to all middle and high school students, Teen Night Out is a chance for teens to hang out with friends and make new ones. To play games, swim, climb, and tumble. Pizza, snacks and drinks are typically available for purchase. The Y hosts a Teen Night Out event on the first Friday of every month during the school year. The event is free, but registration is required. Each event is limited to 50 participants.

Teen Excursions

During the summer and school vacation weeks The Keene Family YMCA offers opportunities for middle and high school students to hop on the Y bus and go on an adventure! Examples of recent Teen Excursions include field trips to Six Flags New England, New England Aquarium, Interskate 91, Pioneer Valley Indoor Karting, and Round 1 Bowling & Amusement. Wherever we go, we always have fun!

Pop-up Events

Our Y sometimes hosts pop-up activities for teens, all aimed at bringing us together and having fun. It’s a great way to spend time after school, and a great opportunity to meet new friends with similar interests. These events typically take place at the Y and are open to teens ages 11-18 and their families. Examples of events we’ve hosted include Wiffle Ball & Soccer in the front field, games of Magic the Gathering, Pumpkin Carving, Skate Hour, and making DIY Cocoa Bombs!

Leaders in Training (LIT)

The Leaders in Training program develops participants into positive role models for younger campers through games and activities that LITs assist with planning. LITs will participate in team building exercises, walking field trips and volunteer work. At the conclusion of the program, LITs will receive their Safe Sitter Certification, and a letter of recommendation that can be used for college and employment applications.
This program is limited to 8 participants, ages 13-15.

Counselors in Training (CIT)

The Counselors in Training program emphasizes the development of confidence, responsibility and leadership. Program staff will lead CITs in daily activities, providing mentoring opportunities and teaching them what it takes to be a camp counselor. CITs will also be paired with counselors from Camp Wakonda to shadow and assist with activities.

At the conclusion of the program, CITs will receive their First Aid/CPR/AED Certifications and a letter of recommendation that can be used for college or employment applications.

This program is limited to 8 participants, ages 15-18.
