Community Impact Events

We are on a mission to strengthen our community. One way we can accomplish this is through events that inspire change through increased understanding and greater collaboration. By bringing together people from different backgrounds, perspectives and generations, we ensure that we all have access to the opportunities, relationships and resources necessary to learn, grow and thrive.

The Keene Family YMCA actively works to address the critical needs of our community.

The YMCA hosts several free events throughout the year to help raise awareness, celebrate, or educate our community about a need that our YMCA is actively working to address. These events are known as Community Impact Events, and they showcase a mix of community and influential leaders that are not necessarily members of our Y. Some events are planned months in advance while others are more spontaneous, often in response to an immediate need or action.

Program Information

Examples of current and past community impact events we’ve hosted include:

The Cheshire County Veterans Expo

In collaboration with Southwestern Community Services, this annual event seeks to provide veterans in our community access to representatives from local veteran-serving organizations. We also say ‘thank you’ with a free lunch and haircut for all vets in attendance.

Juneteenth Celebration

In collaboration with the City of Keene Human Rights Committee and W.S. Badger. A community celebration of the holiday, featuring live performances and educational opportunities, which have included an interpretive trail and film screenings.

Angels of Addictions

Raising awareness of heroin addiction and facilitating grief healing.

An exhibit of portraits by artist Anne Marie Zanfagna portraying people who have died from addiction.

Understanding Gender Identity 101 with Nick Ferraiolo

A presentation wherein Nick shares his own transition story in the corporate world and dispels common misconceptions about gender identity

Ben Jackson: Wrestler, Athlete, Inspiration

Benjamin Cummings-Jackson was diagnosed with Spastic Cerebral Palsy as a child. Despite his diagnosis, Ben has become a formidable athlete, personal trainer, and motivational speaker.
