AQUATICS PROGRAMS
What would the YMCA be without water?
The Keene Family YMCA Swim lessons are taught by trained, experienced swim instructors from all swimming backgrounds. We focus on a swimmers skill development, confidence, endurance but most importantly keeping themselves safe in and around the water.
a life skill
Water fitness, water therapy, lap swim, and adult swim lessons (it’s NEVER too late) are just some of the water-based activities you’ll find at the Y. At the Keene Family YMCA, we know swimming is a life skill as much as it is great exercise and a challenging sport.
The Keene Family YMCA offers a variety of programs that are designed to accommodate children of all age groups and skill levels. At each level, the goals and objectives are specific and directed toward meeting the needs of the swimmer. We offer competitive, non-competitive, and “pre-competitive” options to meet children where they are at.
Each swimmer is given the opportunity to develop physically, emotionally, mentally, and socially through fun, safe, and challenging activities.
Did you know…

Swim Lessons
The YMCA Swim lessons boast an innovative curriculum designed to advance individual swimmer’s skills and abilities in a wide variety of swimming proficiencies including personal safety, submersion, stroke work, competitive swimming, endurance, and physical fitness. Each swimmer’s progress is tracked as they reach benchmark skills. Complete all the skills at one level and advance to the next.
Descriptions of all of our swim programs can be found in our seasonal program guide. To help you decide which class is right for your child, we’ve developed this Swim Level Assessment Tool. If you still have questions, our Aquatics Staff are available to help you find the right fit.
Our program produces the future lifeguards and swim instructors that we count on to keep our community safe.

Junior Dolphins
Children who have passed level 6 are eligible to participate in Junior Dolphins. Junior Dolphins will focus on lane etiquette, race technique, starts off of the diving block, conditioning and so much more. Practice is held twice weekly.

The Dolphins Swim Team trains athletes between the ages of 6 and 18 from the greater Keene New Hampshire area to become competitive swimmers. Our training philosophy is built upon the YMCA’s 4 Core Values: Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility. We believe that competitive swimming nurtures healthy development, and we encourage dedication to sportsmanship, academics, community involvement, and life-long fitness. Our coaches work with all swimmers to set goals and foster commitment to achieving those goals as a responsible member of a team.
