Supporting Minds, Building Community: Join Us for Mental Health Awareness Month

May is Mental Health Awareness Month—a time to shed light on the importance of mental wellness, reduce the stigma surrounding mental health challenges, and highlight the resources available to help people thrive. Mental health affects every aspect of our lives—from our relationships and work to our physical well-being. It’s something we all have, and like physical health, it needs attention, care, and support.

In the Monadnock region and beyond, many individuals struggle in silence. One in five adults in the U.S. experiences mental illness each year, and our youth are facing growing challenges, from anxiety and depression to trauma and isolation. That’s why Mental Health Awareness Month isn’t just a campaign—it’s a call to action for communities to come together, support one another, and access the tools and knowledge needed to navigate mental health challenges with strength and compassion.

To celebrate this important month and provide direct support to our community, the Keene Family YMCA, Monadnock Youth Coalition, and City of Keene Youth Services are proud to present the Mental Health Resource Fair, a free community event designed to connect individuals and families with the incredible mental health and wellness resources available in the Monadnock region.

Mental Health Resource Fair

Date: Tuesday, May 20
Time: 4:00-6:00 PM
Location: Keene Family YMCA, Basketball Gymnasium

This welcoming and interactive event will feature representatives from local organizations dedicated to mental health education, crisis support, youth services, wellness, and more. It’s a chance to learn, ask questions, and build connections—whether you’re looking for support for yourself, a loved one, or just want to be more informed.

Attendees can:

  • Meet the assistance dogs of Boonefield Labradors – known for their calm presence and therapeutic comfort, these dogs will bring smiles to all ages.
  • Learn about suicide prevention from Connor’s Climb Foundation – an organization committed to equipping youth and trusted adults with the skills to recognize and respond to signs of suicide risk.
  • Participate in arts & crafts and wellness activities – designed to promote self-expression, creativity, and relaxation for all ages.
  • Connect with local agencies and professionals – from counselors to youth advocates to community health workers, all eager to share information and support.

Whether you’re a parent, caregiver, educator, teen, or community member, this fair is for you.

Let’s Break the Stigma—Together

Mental Health Awareness Month reminds us that mental health is a huge part of our overall health. Together, we can foster a culture where it’s safe to talk about struggles, ask for help, and support one another with empathy. Whether you attend the Resource Fair, sign up for a training, or simply start a conversation, your involvement makes a difference.

We invite you to join us in building a healthier, more connected Monadnock community—one step, one conversation, and one act of compassion at a time.
