Your Voice Matters: Join the YMCA Advocates Action Network

A group of YMCA advocates at the NH State House.

At the Y, we talk a lot about strengthening community. Every day, we do that through programs that support youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. But there’s another powerful way we create change – one that happens beyond our walls.

It’s called advocacy. And it starts with you.

Why Advocacy Matters

The policies shaped at the local, state, and federal levels directly impact the programs and services our community depends on – childcare, mental health resources, water safety, chronic disease prevention, and more.

When decisions are being made about funding and priorities, it’s critical that lawmakers hear from the people who are closest to the impact. That means parents, members, staff, volunteers, and supporters—people like you who see firsthand what the Y makes possible.

Advocacy isn’t about politics. It’s about people. It’s about ensuring that every child has access to quality care, every individual has the opportunity to live a healthy life, and every community has the resources it needs to thrive.

Introducing the YMCA Advocates Action Network

The YMCA Advocates Action Network (AAN) is a simple, effective way to make your voice heard.

By signing up, you’ll receive occasional Action Alerts—timely opportunities to reach out to your elected officials about issues that matter to the Y and the communities we serve.

When an Action Alert comes through, it will:

  • Clearly explain the issue
  • Tell you exactly what action to take
  • Provide a pre-written message or script

Most of the time, participating takes just a few minutes. You can even personalize your message if you’d like – but you don’t have to.

What We’re Advocating For in 2026

This year, the Y is focused on three key areas that have a direct impact on families and communities nationwide:

1. Child Care Funding

Access to affordable, high-quality childcare is essential – for children, families, and the economy. Federal programs like the Child Care and Development Block Grant (CCDBG), Head Start, and 21st Century Community Learning Centers help ensure kids have safe, enriching environments while parents work or pursue education.

As one of the nation’s largest nonprofit childcare providers, the Y sees this need every day – and we’re advocating for the strongest possible support.

2. Health Promotion Funding

Chronic diseases affect more than 7 in 10 Americans, and drowning remains a leading cause of death for young children. Funding for prevention efforts through the CDC allows Ys to deliver life-changing – and lifesaving – programs, from chronic disease management to swim lessons and water safety education.

3. Mental Health Legislation

Loneliness and isolation are growing challenges across all age groups. The Community Mental Wellness and Resiliency Act aims to fund community-based solutions that build connection and improve mental well-being.

The Y is uniquely positioned to bring people together – and this legislation helps expand that impact.

Why Your Participation Matters

You might be wondering: does one message really make a difference?

Yes – because lawmakers pay attention when they hear from their constituents. And when many voices come together around a shared mission, the impact is even greater.

Advocacy is most effective when it reflects real people and real experiences. That’s what you bring to the table.

It’s Easy to Get Started

Joining the YMCA Advocates Action Network takes just a few minutes. You’ll provide some basic information – like your name, address, and connection to the Y – so we can match you with the elected officials who represent your community.

From there, you’ll only hear from us when there’s a meaningful opportunity to take action.

Your information is secure, and it will only be used for YMCA advocacy efforts – never sold or shared for other purposes.

Be Part of the Change

The Y has always been more than a place – it’s a movement. And like any movement, it’s powered by people who care enough to speak up.

By joining the Advocates Action Network, you’re helping ensure that the Y’s mission continues to reach those who need it most – today and for generations to come.
