2013 KEENE FAMILY YMCA SUMMER CAMPS

YMCA CAMP WAKONDA

Youth Entering Grade 1 – Entering Grade 4

Offered Weekly July 1 – Aug 23          $145 per Week

Watch your child learn, grow and thrive this summer at YMCA Camp Wakonda. Daily camp activities such as sports, games, crafts, swimming, specialty groups, team building exercises, special Wacky Wednesday activities and nature activities will engage youth every day, while they build self esteem, character and long term friendships. Whether your child attends Camp Wakonda for one week or all eight weeks, each week will be a unique camp experience with fun themes & special activities.

Camp Wakonda is located on the Elk’s Camp Property on East Surry Road in Keene, the camp offers an outdoor pavilion, a large field for sports and games and an indoor recreation hall, making camp fun regardless of the weather. Campers will travel by bus on Tuesdays and Thursdays to Surry Beach for swimming and beach activities. Camp Wakonda is licensed by the Department of Health and Human Services; Child Care Bureau.

YMCA CAMP JUMPING JACKS

Youth Entering Kindergarten

Offered Weekly July 1 – Aug 23          $145 per Week

The Keene Family YMCA has designed a wonderful day camp experience for our youngest campers. Camp is an exciting adventure for any child, but a long day away from home can also be a bit overwhelming for little campers. Jumping Jacks is staffed by experienced early childhood educators who understand your child’s need for small staff-to-student ratios, plenty of “down time” and personal attention needed for your little one to have a successful summer camp experience. Campers will engage in outdoor activities, nature exploration, walking field trips, group games, crafts and swimming. Jumping Jacks will make their home base in the Keene Family YMCA’s Children’s Learning Center, at the Y’s main facility. Jumping Jacks is licensed by the Department of Health and Human Services; Child Care Bureau.

YMCA CAMP DUCENDI

TEEN LEADERSHIP CAMP      Ages 12-16 years

July 8-12         $175

The YMCA is dedicated to youth development and providing youth with opportunities to learn, grow and thrive. Our goal is to develop future leaders through opportunities that allow youth to learn valuable leadership skills, embrace positive values and build character. Camp Ducendi will incorporate the character values of volunteerism and service through outreach projects. The week’s experience will also incorporate a trip to Boston, hiking and nature activities and other great adventures, making for a fun and exciting week for campers. Camp Ducendi has a home base at the Keene Family YMCA’s main facility and will leave from and return to the Y for all off site activities.

YMCA JUNIOR COUNSELOR IN TRAINING PROGRAM

Youth Entering Grade 5 – Entering Grade 7

Weekly July 8-August 23         $130 per Week

At the core of the Y’s mission is our focus on youth development and providing youth with opportunities to build self confidence, leadership skills and a strong understanding of social responsibility. The Y’s Junior CIT program allows older youth to take an active part in the planning & development of our Camp Wakonda activities, as well as a leadership role in assisting with activity implementation. Home base for the CIT program is at the Elk’s Camp Property with Camp Wakonda. Campers also spend time off-site on field trips and participating in Junior CIT exclusive activities. Don’t leave your older child home alone this summer or hire a “baby”-sitter, enroll them in the Y’s Junior CIT  program giving yourself some piece of mind and them a valuable experience to last a lifetime.

YMCA TEEN ADVENTURE CAMP

Ages 12-16 years

July 22-26      $255 per Week, Y Members   $310 per Week, Non Y Members

Come explore the beauty of the Monadnock Region. With activities such as hiking, rock climbing, swimming and more. Campers at the Y learn how to be responsible and resourceful, work in groups, problem solve and make decisions that will help them grow as individuals. Each day, campers will meet in the morning at the Y and take off for a full day of outdoor adventure. Every day will feature a new activity where campers will be encouraged to challenge themselves physically and mentally through exposure to outdoor sports. This is an all abilities camp and no special skills or equipment are necessary.

YMCA GYMNASTICS CAMP

Ages 5-12 years

Weekly July 15-August 23         $180 per Week

Your child can balance, jump, bounce, flip and soar to new heights at YMCA Gymnastics Camp. This unique camp experience offers your child the opportunity to learn the sport of gymnastics in a fun and encouraging environment. You will see your child’s confidence grow as they learn to swing on the high bar and walk across the balance beam. In addition to gymnastics your child’s days will be infused with character building activities, games, arts & crafts, dancing, swimming and more. Our camps are co-ed and all ability levels are welcome. All camper activities will be based on the individual child’s ability level and the group will be divided accordingly.

The Y’s state-of-the-art gymnastics center is staffed by certified  professionals. Our large, air conditioned space contains all the Olympic apparatus, a tumble track and foam pit and a spring floor. In addition our camp is licensed by the Department of Health and Human Services; Child Care Bureau and adheres to strict staff to student ratios, safety protocols and health regulations.

YMCA TEEN CLIMBING CAMP

Ages 12-16 years

August 12-16             $255 per Week, Y Members   $310 per Week, Non Y Members

Give your teen the thrill of conquering the rock at Y Climbing Camp this summer. Campers will visit a different outdoor climbing area in the region each day and get a chance to learn what it is all about to scale the “real rock”. Campers will have ample  opportunity to both learn new skills and push their limits. Climbing, hiking and playing hard are all part of the fun. Rainy days aren’t lost with the Y’s own 32ft high, 1,000 sq/ft indoor climbing wall. Climb to new heights with us this summer at Y Climbing Camp. This is an all abilities camp and no special skills or equipment is necessary.

YMCA OUTDOOR YOUTH ADVENTURE CAMP

Ages 7-11 years

July 1-5 (No Camp July 4th) $140 for the Week

July 15-19; July 29-August 2 $170 per Week

Come outside and PLAY! YMCA Outdoor Youth Adventure Camp is all about your child experiencing the great outdoors and  having fun in a natural setting. Your child will learn new skills and make new friends while being challenged and building character. Each day will consist of a mixture of activities located on site at the Keene Family Y’s main facility and exploring all the opportunities our community holds for outdoor recreation including local parks, water fronts and hiking. This camp is co-ed, open to all fitness levels and no special gear or experience is necessary.

YMCA AQUA-BIO CAMP

Youth Entering Grade 6 – Entering Grade 8

July 15-19; July 29-August 2          $175 per Week

Environmental exploration and making a splash are the goals of this one week specialty day camp being offered by the Y Aquatics Department. Conservation biologist and Y Aquatics Director Kelley O’Hara and her staff have created a fun and educational summer experience for campers that includes engaging science projects and both indoor and outdoor water activities. Focus will be on both science and swimming. With plenty of water play including water sports and games. Basic swim skills & comfort level in the water are required for enrollment.

YMCA SPLASH N’ SPORT CAMP

Youth Entering Grade 6 – Entering Grade 8

July 8-12; August 12-16         $150 for the Week

Make a splash this summer at Y Splash n’ Sport Camp, a summer camp for youth who love to be active on land and in the water. This camp focuses on team work and good sportsmanship, while building self confidence and teaching easy and fun ways to stay healthy while   having fun. Half of each camp day will be spent in the Y pool or at local water fronts participating in fun water sports & games and strengthening swim technique. Afternoons will include a plethora of sports activities and land-based games. Basic swim skills & comfort level in the water are required for enrollment.

INTERNATIONAL ADVENTURE CAMP: YMCA YOUTH FESTIVAL, PRAGUE

Ages 12-16

August 1-12     Cost: $2,900 per person (fundraising opportunities available for those committing early)

adventure to the Czech Republic for the 2013 YMCA European Youth Festival in Prague. GENERAL CAMP INFORMATION

CAMP LOCATIONS

Camp Wakonda and Junior C.I.T Program are located at the Elks Camp Property on East Surry Road in Keene. The camp is located before Brettwood Golf Course.

ALL other Camps will be held at, or home based from, the Keene Family YMCA’s main facility at 200 Summit Road, Keene.

 

CAMP HOURS

All Camps run 8:30-4:30pm, Monday-Friday   NO CAMPS ON THURSDAY JULY 4th

 

EXTENDED DAY

All of the Y’s summer camps for children in grades K-5 offer an extended day option for your convenience. You must pre-register for this service on the Camp Selection Form and the following additional fees will be added to your final balance for extended day services:

Before Camp Care 7:00-8:30am $15.00

After Camp Care 4:30-5:30pm $15.00

Combined Before and After Care $25.00

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE and NH STATE ASSISTANCE

All children who qualify for NH State Assistance must complete a new LINK form* with the YMCA at the time of registration. YMCA financial assistance* is available to those who in need and do not qualify for state assistance. Please contact camp registrar, Debby Ellison for more information.

CAMP STAFF

All YMCA staff are trained in Child Abuse Prevention and Safety along with the handling of Blood Borne Pathogens. All Y staff are required to attend a 2 hour Safety Training and Y camp staff are required to attend additional training on handling emergency situations, behavior issues, disciplinary techniques, how to provide encouragement, how to engage children of all ages and how to act as a YMCA role model.

All Y staff and volunteers are background checked and all those working in direct service with children are also fingerprinted. All Y camp staff must meet the Department of Health and Human Services State School Age guidelines for staff requirements to be able to work in our camps.  We hire only the most qualified staff to care for your child at our camp.

 

CAMP REGISTRATION INFORMATION & POLICIES

REGISTRATION & PAYMENT FOR ALL Y CAMPS

The Keene Family YMCA is proud to announce that all of our summer camps for grades K-5 are licensed through the Department of Health and Human Service. This license holds us to a high standard of care, including strict staff-to-camper ratios, health requirements and safety procedures. We know our camp families value this distinction and we vow to adhere to these high standards in our older youth and teen camps as well. Camp is offered on a first come, first served basis and space is limited. We recommend early registration to secure your spot.

How to register:

  • Review camp brochure and fill out registration form completely
  • Obtain Camp Registration Packet from the Y Welcome Center or download all forms from the Keene Family YMCA’s website at WWW.KEENEYMCA.ORG/CAMPFORMS
  • Complete all forms; Registration & Agreement form, Camper Emergency form, Waiver form, include a Copy of a Photo ID of the primary pick up person.
  • Pay $25 Non-Refundable Deposit for each week of camp or pay in full.
  • To Submit your registration you may register by mail or in-person. To mail your registration, include ALL the documentation above and your deposits and send to: Keene Family YMCA, 200 Summit Road Keene NH 03431, Attention Camp Registrar. You may meet with our Camp Registrar in person or submit ALL documentation and deposits/payment with at the Y Welcome Center.*
  • A physician completed Child Health Assessment form and immunization record is required for attendance. These documents must be received by June 1st. Please note that it often takes many weeks/months to get an appointment for a physical and you will need to plan accordingly.

*Please note Camper Registrations are not official until you receive a confirmation email/call from our Camp Registrar confirming receipt of a complete packet and fees.

Payment Policies:

  • Late PICK UP Policy. Our camps end at 4:30 unless you have registered for after camp care you must pick up by 4:30. If you are late you will be charged $5.00 per 5 minutes of lateness. This is the same for After Care; we close at 5:30.
  • Please pick your camps carefully, as a $10.00 fee will be assessed per request per child, to change a camp. A camper is not permitted to change camps during the week. Deposits are not returned for cancellations.
  • All changes must be submitted on or before the Wednesday prior to the start of the following week of camp.
  • No camper will be allowed to attend camp with a balance. Returned checks or Credit Card fees will be charged a $25.00 service fee. All balances are due based on your payment agreement. If payment is not received you will forfeit your spot.
  • No camper will be allowed to attend camp without a complete set of registration paperwork including health and immunization records on file prior to June 1st. If registering after June 1st, health forms must be included in the packet at the time of registration.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS

Our program invites and supports children who have various disabilities including physical, developmental, behavioral and learning challenges. Please review our camps carefully and take note of specific requirements to ensure that your child will have the best possible summer camp experience.
Any child who currently has in-class support during the school day/year is required to have support at camp to ensure each child has a safe and successful experience while here at the Y. You can contact your school about obtaining summer support.
The child’s needs or behaviors should not pose any physical or emotional threat to themselves, other camps, or staff. If a child requires intervention to correct behaviors, a support staff will need to attend camp with the child.
All children are expected to participate in all camp activities; activities will be adapted to fit camper’s needs within reasonable accommodations.
If your child has a special need, please contact the Camp Director prior to registration to review if the camp is the right for your child.
