Gymnastics

Participating in Gymnastics will not only help your child become stronger and more flexible, it will build their self-esteem, teach them the value of hard work and perseverance, and offer them the opportunity to express themselves through a unique sport that combines creativity with physical exercises. The Keene Family YMCA’s Gymnastics program is a great place to start.

Gymnastics encourages perseverance and challenges participants to reach new levels of achievement. At the Y, gymnasts of all abilities have the opportunity to have fun while developing a strong foundation in the sport.

The Keene Family YMCA’s gymnastics program provides high-quality, individualized instruction for toddlers through teens. Through innovative coaching techniques and supportive parental involvement, each gymnast is given the opportunity to develop physically, emotionally, and socially through fun, safe and challenging activities.

Our progressive lesson plan helps kids fine-tune their talents and their love of the sport.

Program Information

Toddler & Preschool Gymnastics

Our toddler and preschool gymnastics classes offer a safe and controlled introduction to the fun and excitement of gymnastics. Your child will run, jump, tumble, climb and roll in our parent/child and preschool gymnastics classes. Parent/guardian participation in each of these classes.

Toddlers

Ages 1-3 years

This class encourages exploratory fun in a nurturing play-group style atmosphere. Our instructors will help you and your child explore and play. We use age-appropriate equipment for your child to crawl, roll, climb and roam while developing body awareness, balance and coordination.

Tiny Tumblers

Ages 3-4 years

If your child is ready for a little more structure, but they’re not quite ready to go it alone, this is the class for you! This class combines elements of the Toddler and Preschool classes, providing structure while maintaining the comfort of having you there with your child.

Family Gymnastics

Ages Walking-5 years

This class is designed to allow young siblings to take a class together. There will be circuits available and free choice time.

Drop-in & Open Gymnastics

These classes are designed to allow participants to experience our gymnastics center without the commitment of registering for a full program session. Members can register each child who will be participating through the Y mobile app up to 24-hours in advance.

Family Open Gymnastics

Ages 12 & Under

All current Family and Youth members are invited to attend this free class. This is a great opportunity to explore our gymnastics center under the supervision of our professional staff. Parents/guardians are required to accompany their child(ren) on the floor.

Adaptive Gymnastics

Ages 12 & Under

Designed for children with moderate challenges including developmental delay, attention deficit, autism, and other sensitivities, this class provides an opportunity for children with special needs to participate in a recreational activity. Parents/guardians are required to assist their child on the floor during class.

Adult Gymnastics

13+ or member of the Gymnastics Team

This class offers teens, adults and Gymnastics Team members a chance to utilize our Gymnastics Center to hone their skills. Participants are welcome to work independently, or to work with the instructor on anything they’d like to practice.

Recreational Gymnastics

Our recreational classes are a great way to enjoy the fun of gymnastics, without the pressure of competition. These classes will help your child develop strength and flexibility while allowing them to progress at their own pace.

Preschool

Ages 4-5

This class promotes beginner skill development with an emphasis on safety and fun. Your child will learn various skills including how to follow directions, participate safely in group activities, and control their body. A perfect introduction to gymnastics!

Kinder

Ages 5-6

Children in this class will learn the “lead-up” drills required to learn basic gymnastics skills. They are introduced to gymnastics terminology and use age-appropriate equipment while gradually being introduced to the larger Olympic Apparatus. This is a great class for motor skill development.

Basic Rec

Ages 6-12

In this class your child will focus on skill development at their own pace, under the nurturing instruction of our qualified staff. We’ll also enjoy games and activities on the floor.

Ninja

Ages 6-12

Based on the popular international obstacle course competition, this class will help your child develop basic gymnastics skills, agility, flexibility and speed. Junior ninjas compete against the clock, navigating a series of obstacles and challenges as they attempt to set new personal records.

Tumbling

Ages 6-13

Learn flips and tricks in a safe, structured setting using our state-of-the-art Fall Floor, Tumbl Trak, and foam pit. Tumbling is perfect for aspiring gymnasts, cheerleaders, acrobats, and kids just wanting to have fun. This class is progressive in nature and designed to promote skill development in participants of all abilities, from beginner tumblers to advanced athletes.

Progressive Gymnastics

Our progressive gymnastics program is designed for those striving to compete in the sport of gymnastics. These classes provide progressive skill development in agility, endurance, strength, balance, physical conditioning, and gross/fine motor skills. Gymnasts will progress through the levels by instructor recommendation only.

Beginner

Ages 6-13

In this class your child will begin to develop basic gymnastics skills in a positive and supportive environment. Open to all gymnasts. No previous experience necessary.

Intermediate

Ages 6-13

To progress to this level, students must have been invited by their instructor or be able to jump to front support on bars, hold Mickey Mouse ears, confidently walk forward and sideways on the beam, perform a forward roll on the floor, perform a bridge, cartwheel, and handstand against a wedge mat.

Advanced

Ages 6-13

To enter the Advanced class participants must have been invited by their instructor or be able to hurdle onto a springboard, three casts in a row, standing glide swing, releve walking forward and sideways on the beam, tuck jump dismount off beam, bridge with feet together, cartwheel with correct form, handstand on floor, and backward roll down the wedge mat.

Rising Stars

Ages 6-13

Must be a member of the Y and either be invited by the Advanced class instructor or have a formal evaluation done by the Gymnastics Coordinator.

Royals Gymnastics Team

Ages 6-13

The Keene Family YMCA is home to the Royals Gymnastics Team, offering gymnasts the opportunity to compete against other teams throughout the season at a variety of meets. Being part of the team is a commitment of time, effort and energy… but it is so worth it!

The Royals compete in Eastern and Western YMCA Leagues. Our team is comprised of Junior Olympic Levels 2-9, as well as Xcel Silver through Diamond.
