Race Day Reflections

Keene Family YMCA Race Day Reflections

This year’s Fall Foliage 5K was another great example of how the Keene Family YMCA is truly a place for everyone. Our friendly, modest race allows everyone the chance to run in a 5K. This year’s race saw Men, Women and Children competing together and supporting each other in their efforts on a gorgeous fall day, but if you looked a little closer you could see more; our oldest runner this year was 78, and our youngest was only 10. We saw very experienced runners alongside people running their first 5k ever. We had sponsored athletes running beside whole families just out for the health and fun of it. We had runners with disabilities challenging themselves to push their limits, and runners that were just there to have fun.

I am always proud of the ability of our Y to be a place for everyone, and I am pleasantly reminded of this by looking at what we do here every day, the 5k is just a snap shot of this wonderful aspect of our Y.
