Collecting Personal Hygiene Items for Homeless Youth

State and community agencies are coming together to discuss a growing concern for homeless youth in our area. It has been identified that approximately 30 students in the Monadnock School District are currently homeless. The Y has come to the table on this issue and we are involved in a community effort to assure adequate resources for families experiencing homelessness in our area. Local resource services for the homeless have indicated that personal hygiene products are in short supply.

In an effort to assist our local homeless youth, the Y is now a permanent collection site for personal hygiene items like soap, razors, shaving cream, shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, tooth brushes, feminine care products, and baby care products. These items seem small, but can have a huge impact on self image, peer interaction and confidence. The Y has committed to making our members aware of this issue, collecting items and delivering them to the Community Kitchen, which is one of 2 distribution centers in the city. The next time you pick up one of these items at the store, please consider tossing another into your cart for someone in need. Items may be left with the Welcome Center.
